Edward attended McNeese State University where he lettered in baseball and football. He later obtained a Master's Degree in education. A proud veteran, he served in the United States Army.
His desire to coach was his greatest passion and he coached until he was 80 years old. In addition, Edward truly enjoyed being a husband, dad, farmer, teacher and horseman. Once he retired, he continued to sketch plays and serve what he would call "much needed advice" to the younger crop of coaches.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Jimmy Cormier (Becky), Helen Friar (Jerry), Tony Cormier (Nancy), Claire Burgess (Roger), Jules Cormier (Roger), Leslie Giggar (Chris) and Robin Gates (Robbie); 13 grandchildren, Ward Cormier, Caroline Johnson, Clay Cormier, Ashley Cormier, Amanda Thibodeaux, Lindsey Leger, Madeline Cormier, Chloe Cormier, Morgan Broussard, Lane Giggar, Logan Primeaux, Parker Primeaux and Luke Primeaux; and13 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 64 years, Dorothy Cormier; and sisters, Helen Cormier and Eldalene Todd.
