Ava attended school in Iowa, Louisiana and graduated from high school as the salutatorian of her graduating class. She then attended college at Northwestern University in Natchitoches, Louisiana where she earned a BS degree in Education. She then married the love of her life, Buck Pugh and moved to Welsh where she taught school until her retirement. She was greatly admired by all who knew her.
Gran, as she was known by her family, will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She is survived by one son, Cleve Pugh(Roxanna); two daughters, Robyn Daigle(Clyde) and Bridget Doucet (Bobby). She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Grover Cleveland “Buck” Pugh, and a son-in-law, Kenneth James Broussard.
When it came to Ava's favorite activities, there were no boundaries. She fancied sewing, crafting, and fishing. One of Ava's most treasured crafts she contrived were handmade guardian angels for her friends and family.
Visiting on her front porch with friends and family, playing card games and feeding the birds brought much jubilation to her. If there was music of any kind, she would be dancing. She was a very adventurous woman who was known to slide down a waterslide, ride on the back of motorcycles, and sit on the back of a huge bull named Big Red while in her 80’s.
Gran was not shy in regards to her faith. She was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Welsh where she was also an active member of the UMW and the sewing ministry. Above all of these things, Ava cherished spending time with her family the most of all.
Gran is also survived by her grandchildren, Adrienne Smith(Dave), Eric Broussard(Jessica), Leslie King(Braden), Robert Doucet(Hope), Ashley Pugh, Buck Pugh(Amanda), Weston Broussard(Sherry), Jaime Doucet(Blaine), and several step grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. James McNally, Luke and Lauren Guidry of Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care of Jennings, Home Health, and her loving and caring sitters, Maxine and Bobbie Jo Tupper.
Cremation services have been entrusted to Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
