WELLFLEET----- Richard “Ricky” Hazen III, 50, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis, MA. He lost a courageous, lifelong battle with a rare form of muscular dystrophy. After the doctors said very early in his life that he would be lucky to live to the age of 18. Ricky defied the odds and lived a full productive life with a smile always on his face.
Ricky was born in Newton, MA on May 22, 1962 to the late Richard Hazen II and the late Eleanor (Franklin) Hazen. He was lifelong resident of Wellfleet. Ricky graduated from Nauset High School in 1981. He was assistant manager at the Wellfleet Flea Market for over 30 years; where he worked for his beloved mother, Eleanor Hazen.
Ricky is survived by cousins Bill, Terri, and Kathy Franklin of Gulf Breeze, FL, his Uncle Hoddy and Aunt Betty Franklin of Gulf Breeze, FL, cousins Sylvia, Kenny, and Barbara Rogers of Roswell, GA, cousin Rick Franklin of Sarasota, FL, cousins Aaron, Beth, and Jessica Francis of Wellfleet, MA, cousins Nancy, Susie, Billy, and Adam Blake of Reston, VA, and a long time good friend and business associate John Vincent of Eastham, MA. He is also survived by his beloved Bassett Hound, Thelma.
Ricky loved life and all that Wellfleet and the Cape had to offer. He enjoyed going out in the boat to Billingsgate Island and to Jeremy Point or just hanging out at the beach house in the old days. He loved the Wellfleet Drive In/Cinema/Flea Market, and all of the bassett hounds he had over his lifetime. Ricky had a kind heart and was a special individual. He will be greatly missed by all of his friends and family.
His Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Congregational Church, Main Street, Wellfleet, MA. Burial will be held at a later date. For online condolences, please visit www.nickersonfunerals.com
