James ‘Jim’ Arthur Cyr, 83, of Provincetown, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Maine on June 10th, 2024. Jim was born on August 6th, 1940, in Old Town, Maine. He was one of 7 children of the late Harvey and Alvina (Cote) Cyr. He graduated from Old Town High School in 1960.
After high school, Jim moved to Boston where he attended embalming school and practiced this for several years before starting his career in Banking. Later, he worked on Beacon Hill assisting clients with household needs until his full retirement. In 1978, Jim and Jack bought their home in Provincetown and were married in 2008.
Jim was known for his exquisite gardens. He would often be found in his yard from sunup to sundown, saying hello to those who walked by and sharing stories. He also enjoyed home projects, painting and decorating, traveling with Jack, spending time at the beach and with family in Maine. He had an imaginative and creative mind.
Many also remember Jim because of his dog Millie. Jim had an amazing love for canines and was the neighborhood dog whisperer. He welcomed any dog walking by with open arms, cuddles, and treats.
He had a love and zest for life, was an endless source of laughter and will be remembered for his crazy antics. During his 46 years in Provincetown, he made many lifelong friends including the group who gathered every summer for over 30 years, who lovingly referred to him as ‘Granny.’
He is predeceased by his parents, husband Jack Sheehan, sister Annette Thibodeau, brother in law’s Rick Hersey and David Thibodeau and his beloved dog Mildred.
He leaves his loving siblings: Linda Hersey, Joseph (Suzanne) Cyr, Peter (Dawn) Cyr, Jerome (Debbie) Cyr, Susan (Duddy) Phelps; and will be fondly remembered by his fifteen nieces and nephews, and numerous friends whom he considered family.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for the continuous care and support provided by his wonderful close friends, staff at Winterberry Heights and Gentiva Hospice.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024 from 5 – 7 pm at Nickerson Funeral Home, 340 Main Street, Wellfleet, MA.
