Ann Dickerson Swanson of Truro, MA – formerly of Marshfield Hills, passed into God’s care June 27th after battling Multiple Myeloma for several years. Daughter of Frank S. Dickerson, Jr. and Mary Lou (Pierson) Dickerson, both late of Truro, she was born in Ithaca, NY. After living in Lexington and Hingham, her family ultimately settled in Concord, MA. A graduate of Concord Academy, she attended Colby-Sawyer College and Boston University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music. While at BU she met her future husband, Peter Swanson of Hingham, MA. They were married in Truro in 1968, and recently had celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary.
Ann is best known as a very caring and gifted piano teacher. While residing in Marshfield Hills for thirty years, she taught students of all ages in studios and at home. In retirement, she was a member of the choir of Wellfleet’s 1st Congregational Parish. She delighted in playing and singing sacred music. A prolific crafter, she was constantly knitting or crocheting in her “spare time.” Many dozens of beautiful works were fashioned and gifted or donated right up to her very last days.
She was a kind and most generous teacher and musician, volunteering as accompanist for Marshfield High School concerts, Sunday School programs both in Marshfield and in Wellfleet, and as accompanist for the “Grace Notes” singers at Provincetown’s C.O.A.
She is survived by her husband, Peter, sons Eric of Ann Arbor, MI, Bradford of Brooklyn, NY and their wives, Sarah Moss Swanson and Sarah Ward, grandsons, Liem & Oliver, and her brother Frank S. “Skip” Dickerson III and his wife Lynda of Duxbury and Truro. A Memorial Service in Ann's honor will take place on Saturday, October 12 at 2PM at Wellfleet's First Congregational Church, 200 Main St., Wellfleet with reception to follow. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to a charity of your choosing.
