Warren was born on January 15, 1939, to Warren Sr. and Florence Buttelmann of Houston, Texas. Warren attended Lamar High School, and upon graduation began his studies at the University of Texas. After a year at Texas, Warren joined the United States Marine Corps Reserves where he attained the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. While in the Marines he took up boxing and was the Houston Golden Gloves Novice Winner in 1957!
Warren had strongly considered following his father’s footsteps with a career in accounting, but eventually decided to pursue the risks and rewards of a career as an entrepreneur. He worked in several industries and retired in February 2021 after founding and leading the contracting company Property Service Group. Warren was devoted to providing quality work for his clients and was a friend and mentor to his employees for whom he cared for as his family.
One of the biggest days in Warren’s life was Halloween of 1965 when he met his future bride, Maretta McDonald, at a social event in the “Backyard” of the Chateau Rouge Apartments. They were blessed with 53 years of marriage and raised four beloved children. Warren loved his family well, and always took opportunities to play with his children and teach them important life lessons like how to build a deck, how to throw a tight spiral football, and how to tuck-and-roll by jumping off the roof. He loved driving adventures with his family and would even stop to see bluebonnet fields and would frequently say, “I’d like to climb that mountain!” On occasion he would stop the car and climb that mountain with his family. He enjoyed San Diego, CA, convertibles, shopping for cars, family camping trips and playing in the water; however, he did not like sand in his toes! He enjoyed being Grandpa Buddy and funny Uncle Buddy who would ride down hills on scooters. He was a true “Love Ya Blue” Oilers, Astros, and Rockets fan. Since his parents did not allow him to keep the blind pony he brought home one day, his affections turned towards spaniels as his future pet of choice. He is fondly remembered for his unique way of cutting his eggs in the morning and for how he loved his after meal desserts like Oreos, Blue Bell ice cream, and cinnamon rolls. He was a faithful and devoted husband and father who spoke sparingly, but his affections were expressed louder than words.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jack Buttelmann and nephew Rick Buttelmann.
Warren is survived by his wife, Maretta Ann, daughters Shawn Terese, Shannon Denise (Mont McClendon) and Shelley Rene’ (Brian McPheeters), his son Trey Warren (Erin Alicia Allison), and grandchildren: Ben, Anna, William, and Patrick McClendon; Hannah, Jacob, Brigid, Joseph, and John McPheeters; and Liam and Rowen Buttelmann.
A visitation and recitation of the Holy Rosary for Warren will be held Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at 10:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at Mary Queen Catholic Church, 606 Cedarwood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546.
