Vicki Smith, age 62, passed away December 10, 2018. She was born August 9, 1956 and lived in Texas City, Texas until she became school age; then her family moved to South Houston, where she spent most of her life. She enjoyed backyard cookouts with family, because her dad was a butcher and cut/cooked awesome steaks. She also loved music and getting together with friends.
Vicki’s mother was raised Catholic. Her dad was not a practicing member of any religion, but was a great person and Christian. When Vicki turned 20, she made the decision to be baptized into the Catholic Church. She was a devoted reader of the bible and scripture. She was a member of Saint Bernadette’s Catholic Church in Webster, Texas.
Vicki was a good daughter who adored her dad and mom. Because of the age difference between her and her half-sister (Linda), she spent the majority of her life as “an only child”.
Vicki worked in banking and loans for most her career, however she was working at Forest Park East Funeral Home and Cemetery at her time of death.
Scriptures that Vicki had marked in her Catholic Women’s Devotional Bible:
Abandoned by Ann Spangler
Praying with Tamar (Lift Your Heart)
Mary’s Role in the Church - Luke 11.27
Vicki was a 2-time Survivor of Breast Cancer. She was first diagnosed in 2001, where she received a partial mastectomy and complete chemo and radiation treatments. Her cancer returned in 2016 and she completed treatment again. She was a warrior and fought to be healthy. Her spiritual devotion was evident in the many scriptures and verses she had posted throughout her apartment.
Vicki was a very sweet, outgoing and loving person. She always had a beautiful smile that made everyone love her.
Vicki was preceded in death by her mother (Alberta Joyce Smith), her dad (Dallas Hilton Smith), and her half-sister (Linda Vandegarde).
She leaves behind the love of her life, her precious Chihuahua, Sophie. Sophie has now been adopted by Susan Warner (who was kind enough to rescue her and give her a new life…….thank you Susan!)
Vicki is survived by her sister Linda’s two children and a host of friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Susan, Marigrace, Greg, and all the staff at Forest Park Funeral Home and Cemetery and members and faculty of St. Bernadette Catholic Church.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00pm Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas 77598.
