It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Tommy Howard on July 17, 2024, at the age of 56, due to acute heart failure. Tommy was a beloved husband, father, and friend who dedicated his life to his family and his work.
Tommy was born in Texarkana, Arkansas, on October 25, 1967. At the age of 19, he joined the U.S. Army, proudly serving in the 101st Airborne Division. During his military career, he was a decorated soldier and a veteran of Operation Desert Storm. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Marksman Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Air Assault Badge, and many more accolades in recognition of his service and dedication.
After completing his military service, Tommy embarked on a successful career as a Safety Manager. He worked with several esteemed companies, including Jacobs Engineering, ExxonMobil, RasGas, Quality Industrial Services, and FCC Construction. Most recently, he served as the EHS&S Lead for Chevron Phillips Chemical in Doha, Qatar, where he felt truly at home among colleagues who quickly became family. Tommy was deeply committed to his safety team, always striving to ensure the well-being of everyone around him.
Tommy was known for his vibrant and outgoing personality. He was the life of the party, always bringing joy and laughter to those around him. His rambunctious spirit was infectious, and he made friends wherever he went. His positive outlook on life inspired many, and his kindness and generosity knew no bounds.
Tommy was a dedicated family man who lived in multiple countries, including Madagascar, Singapore, Qatar, and the United States. His heart was always with his loved ones, and he worked tirelessly to provide for them. Tommy was known for his unwavering work ethic and his boundless love for his wife, Catharine, and their children. He was a devoted husband and a nurturing father who found joy in the simple pleasures of life.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Tommy had a deep love for animals, particularly cats. In Doha, he became known for his kindness and compassion toward the stray cats in his community, often caring for and feeding them.
Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Catharine Howard; his children, Jacob Howard, Brandon Howard, Mackenzie Howard, Shinn Bermudo Howard, and Riley Howard; and his siblings, Deborah Dixon, Sherri Stone, James Howard, Sue Ann Prodell, and Tanya Files. He is also survived by a host of friends and colleagues who will remember him fondly for his kindness, integrity, and the positive impact he had on their lives.
A burial service to honor Tommy's life and legacy will be held at the Houston National Cemetery on Friday, August 9th, at 11:15 a.m. The family invites those who knew and loved Tommy to join them in remembering his remarkable life.
