Sharon was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and raised in Jackson, Louisiana by her grandmother, Lena Newsom Day. Sharon had two children, Rob and Chris, with her first husband, CWO4 Harold James Thomas USA Retired (Jim), before marrying Tommie Wayne Frost Devine (Tom) and accepting his four children, Michelle, Billy, Pam, and Susannah, as her own.
Sharon enjoyed a career supporting risk management in the oil and gas industry and retired from GlobalSantaFe. Ever the gracious host, her home was her kingdom. She took great care to ensure that it was a beautiful and welcoming environment. While she spent most of her life in Houston, Texas, Sharon traveled to Louisiana often to visit her family and attend reunions. She ensured that her home décor and clothing represented her Cajun roots.
Sharon was engaged in her community. She was a league bowler during her career years and coordinated community events in her neighborhood after retirement. Sharon was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and Daughters of 1812. She was most proud of her family history and served for a time as an officer of DAR. After Tom’s passing, Sharon moved to The Conservatory at Champion Forest and acquired friends both at her new residence as well as within a local dominos group.
Sharon appreciated and cultivated the pretty things in life: flowers, decorations, candles, crystals, pictures, and fascinators. She had a green thumb and loved sitting and chatting with family and friends in her well-manicured backyard or playing games and puzzles around the kitchen table. Sharon believed in celebrating life with a creative imagination and always had a project in the works, from a wreath or trinket to a fancy hat or seasonally-decorated shirt. She took pleasure in cooking, crafting, doting on family, antiquing with her sister Linda, digging into family history with her husband Tom, and hosting large family events with him for all major holidays and Sunday brunches.
Sharon was a kind-hearted, sincere, and truly generous woman who would find a modest way to give you the shirt off her back. She was a great supporter—it was hard to get her to stop moving, rest, and let others help. Her door was always open for anyone to stop by at any time. Sharon was always there for family, friends, and community, and we are all better for knowing and learning from her.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 16 from 5:00PM -8:00PM in the stateroom of Forest Park East Funeral Home located at 21620 Gulf Freeway Webster, Texas. A Celebration of Sharon’s life will be held Thursday, November 17 at 10:00AM at Forest Park East Funeral Home. Immediately following she will be laid to rest at Forest Park East Cemetery.
