Roy joined the U.S Airforce in 1948 and served as a firefighter for 44 years until his retirement in 1969. At that time he went to work for the fire department at NASA in Clear Lake City. In 1975, he went to work for the Port of Houston on fire boats where he eventually became the Chief Engineer until his final retirement in 1992.
Roy was raised on the Trinity River and learned to fish with his grandfather at an early age. He took his love of fishing to all the different places he was stationed in the military. He fished the lakes of Michigan, the beaches of England, the Mountain Rivers of Idaho and the Gulf of Mexico during his off-shore trips. Out of all the places he went fishing nothing compared to the Trinity River where it all began.
Aside from his love for fishing his proudest accomplishment was his loving family. He was a wonderful provider and adoring husband to Lilian. His love for his children and grandchildren ran deep and he always made sure they knew it.
Roy is survived by his wife Lilian of 67 years; Sons Dale, Roy and Shane, daughter in law Randi Tilley and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
