Melissa Ann Boyle was born at Texas City Hospital on September 26, 1967. She graduated from Clear Creek High School and Alvin Community College. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 9, 2023. Melissa is preceded in death by her father, George Roland Smith. She is survived by her mom, Sherra Mallett, Stepfather, Earl Mallett, and husband, Mike Boyle. Melissa met Mike, the love of her life, and the two were married on April 5, 1997. But the truest love of her life was her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She spent her life loving Him and leading others closer to Him. Her favorite Scripture was Isaiah 40:31 because she always knew that one day she would be on wings of eagles and well, she was right.
Melissa was definitely a woman who was known to be on TEAM JESUS, 150%! She was just like ‘Johnny Appleseed’ but she was slinging seeds for Jesus. Mellissa would love to brag about New Hope Church. She would inviting people to attend by letting them know how good the church was and if they came on Thursday nights, they wouldn’t even have to make supper because they are gonna get served free pizza. She would tell them about the children’s ministry and the youth ministry about how they have their own church, in their own classrooms, with their own band and teachers. From new born to high school they were going to be cared for. She was especially proud of how the church would have ‘Student Takeovers’ and would tell people how awesome it was to see the students serve the church at every capacity doing just about everything there was to do. She was proud to tell all those stories and encouraged everyone to attend everywhere she went. Her home was where the mail came but her real home was the church.
One of Melissa’s favorite things to collect was anything from the Pioneer Woman, all her dishes, pots and pans and the coffee pot has the signature flowers on it, even the covers on her bed. Just about everything she touched had to have it. Melissa was a very good cook and she loved being a homemaker, she told Mike, “When you come home, I want to be sure supper's ready for you.” He would tell her she didn’t have to do that, but she insisted. If you know Melissa, you know nothing stopped her.
Melissa was never limited to her wheelchair. She even got on a water ski by herself (even though she hated the water) but when she got on top of that water she was thrilled! Melissa loved reading her Bible and she would encourage others to do the same and would even equip them with a bible. Melissa also enjoyed fishing. One day she invited a very young friend, Evan Anderson, to join her on a fishing tournament. Not only did he join her but he also won and he's been on those fishing tournaments ever since. That always made her so happy!!
Melissa also loved animals, she would help foster puppies too. She even collected stuffed animals. Her mom once gave her a stuffed bear made of mink and when Melissa had her shoulder surgery her mom wrapped her little bear in a shoulder sling to encourage her that we're all in this together. (Now we know where Melissa got her sense of humor and her love).
Mike’s favorite memory he has of Melissa happened several years back when they attended church and someone asked Melissa if she could walk would she want to? Melissa responded, “I've never been able to walk so I don't miss it. I would not want to walk because that is not how God made me. He made me this way so others can see what he could do through me and that they would know that there's no limitations.” Melissa knew she could reach more people in that chair than anybody else.
Melissa often times would tell Mike, “I'm sorry, I didn't mean to get sick” of course he knew that but it would touch him because she would never let people really know how much she was suffering. She would say, “My suffering is nothing in comparison to what my Lord did for me on the cross; it's not for me to complain this little bit of suffering that I have.” Towards the end of her life she was taking pretty heavy medication in order to manage the pain. She would just keep trying -- that's who she was. Melissa loved to pray and one thing she’d say is “where two or more are gathered, God is there” so she would say, “All I need is just one more person and I know God's with us!”
Mike said I bet on the day of the funeral Melissa is going to be peeking over the clouds to see how things are going and to see how her loved ones are doing but God is going to move all those clouds over and give her a really nice bird's eye view.
Thank you, Lord, for the gift of Melissa and thank you, Lord for bringing her home with you. What a gift we have in Jesus.
