Mary Louise Poe, 90, passed away at her home in Humble, Texas on June 3, 2016. She was born on February 5, 1926 in Pine Island, Caddo Parish, La., to her parents, Robbie Alexander and Evelyn (Feazell) Haughton.
Mary lived in Galveston, Texas, for over 60 years, having worked for the Corps of Engineers, Santa Fe Railroad, the Port of Galveston (Galveston Wharves) and retired as Personal Secretary to Jack Evans, Commercial Realtor. She loved investing and was a Charter Member of two Investment Clubs. She also enjoyed playing Bridge. Mary was named “Mrs. Galveston” in 1959.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Eugene “Gene” Poe; brother, John B. Haughton; two sisters, Bobbie J. Kauffman and Max E. Ireland; step-son, Charles West Poe; grandchild, Donald M. “Bud” Poe, Jr.
She is survived by daughter, Robbie O’Brien and husband, George; son, Dr. H. Brick Pomeroy and Suzie Lyons; brother, James M. Haughton; step-son, Donald M. Poe and wife, Jane; sister-in-law, Sharon Barton and husband, Robert; 4 grandchildren, Brooke E. King and husband Josh, Barbara E. Beeson, Henry Brick Pomeroy IV, and Rachel I. Poe; two great-grandchildren, Ava C. King and Nathaniel C. King.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Forest Park East Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to Rosenberg Library, 2310 Sealy, Galveston, Texas 77550.
