Her passion for bringing family stories to life and fun-loving humor is how she will be most remembered. After a long heart-wrenching period of physical and mental decline by dementia, she entered into eternal rest peacefully at home surrounded by her children on November 7, 2023 at the age of 93 in Houston, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Raymond Phillips Peña, and son Fred Peña.
Mary is survived by her sister Susie Padilla, children Linda Benavides, Rhonda Peña (Fred), Larry Peña, Carol Peña, Raymond Peña Jr., Mona Peña, and Efren Peña. Her six grandchildren Salina Vargas (Randy), Meloedy O’Brien, Phillip Peña (Amy), Jerry Benavides, Toni Hinojosa, and Adela Caballero (Zachary). Great-grandchildren Lauren Vargas, Khloe Vargas, Devon Talbut, Kaley Peña, Jacob Peña, Sebastian Peña, Emma Benavides, Victoria Hinojosa, Xavier Hinojosa, Roman Hinojosa, and Mateo Caballero, as well as extended family and friends.
