Mark was born on June 15, 1959 to Robert Anthony Lizik and Elise Brewer Lizik in Chicago, IL. He grew up with five siblings and attended Catholic school. He met the love of his life Denise and the couple married on December 22, 1981. Mark worked as a welder before he and Denise moved to Houston, Texas to pursue new opportunities in a better job market.
Mark was a workaholic. He worked as an electrician/instrument technician for more than 40 years, from 1981 until he was hospitalized for a brief illness earlier this year. Mark worked at several plants in Deer Park, Baytown, La Porte and Houston. No matter what plant he was at, he always became the go-to guy who could troubleshoot and fix anything, always ready for the next call-out or turnaround. He was passionate about safety, constantly reminding his coworkers to wear their PPE. Even though at home he once cut his finger three times in a row with the same knife. He always made friends at work and was a popular guy, making a lasting impression on everyone he met.
In his spare time, Mark enjoyed home renovation projects, yard work, and taking apart, building and fixing all kinds of things. He was an excellent all-around handyman and enjoyed lending his skills to those in need. Mark was a Texan at heart but a Chicagoan by stomach and he had a massive sweet tooth. He was a self-described “banana nut muffin” kind of guy.
Mark was a proud father to Dana and Robert Lizik. He loved animals and nature, especially dogs. He was happiest in the backyard with a cup of black coffee, surrounded by his pups.
He had an off-beat sense of humor and was known to make absurd jokes and find fun in unexpected situations. Mark was also very observant and on numerous occasions found money or valuables in parking lots, teaching everyone to pay closer attention.
He was incredibly stubborn. Mark was a selfless friend and father willing to give someone the shirt off his back, but he was sometimes misjudged because of his brash and no-nonsense manner. He beat cancer in 2023 because there was no way he was going down without a fight.
Mark is survived by his wife Denise, daughter Dana, son Robert, relatives in various states, his dogs (Foxy, Tundra, Daisy and Dodger), and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Kenneth Schultz.
