Mark Donald Johnson

Mark was born September 27th, 1956, in Cloquet, MN, to Richard Donald and Violet Rose (Wydra) Johnson. His family eventually relocated to Eau Claire, WI where he grew up and attended Memorial High School, graduating from the class of 1974. He then attended University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and went on to attend grad school at Michigan Technological University where he received his masters degree. He married Becky (Rebecca) Herrick on May 31st, 1980 in Eau Claire, WI.

In his early career he was an environmental specialist for the WI Dept of Natural Resources in Rhinelander and Wausau, WI. He became an environmental affairs manager with Weyerhaeuser Company in Marshfield, WI, later relocating to Atlanta, Georgia. He then began working for FMC Corporation as a global EHS audit manager in Philadelphia, PA and spent 15 years traveling the world for his job. He retired in 2021 and he and Becky relocated to League City, TX to be closer to their children and grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.

Mark loved nature; from rock and fungi foraging to fishing and fire, he loved nothing more than to be outdoors. He was a talented artist with many beautiful works of art in oil, ink, pencil, watercolor, and acrylic. Mark was a devout Christian and lifelong member of the Episcopal Church spending many years serving on the vestry and reading scripture during services. In his retirement he enjoyed stamp collecting, target shooting, swimming with his granddaughters, and spending time with family.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 43 years, Becky, daughter Kristin (Lee), son Erik (Elizabeth), and granddaughters Madeline, Charlotte, and Catherine, of League City, TX, brother Rick (Stephanie), of Madison, WI and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; Violet (1994) and Richard (2011).

A memorial service will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church, 18300 Upper Bay Road, Houston, TX 77058 on Saturday, November 18th, 2023 at 2 pm.

To honor Mark's life, we will gather after the memorial service at the home of Kristin and Lee Echerd. All are invited to join in sharing funny stories, favorite memories, some of Mark's favorite food and drinks, and (weather-permitting) an evening by the fire pit with s'mores. Comfortable/casual attire welcome.
