Judy was born in Houston, Texas on January 4, 1944. She was the second of three daughters born to her parents Delphine and Joyce Grimm of Brenham, Texas. She graduated from Pasadena High School in 1962 where she played the snare drums in the band. On weekends she spent time with her friends at the local teen dance hall, Taylor Hall, where she met Darrel Hendley. Judy and Darrel married in June 1964 and had two daughters, Jennifer in 1969 and Julie in 1973.
For many years Judy worked in a salon as a hair dresser until divorce led her on a new 30 year career path at San Jacinto Junior College. She earned her Associate of Arts Degree to become a Cosmetology Instructor and prior to retiring in 2016, she continued to achieve other titles such as Department Chair over the Cosmetology, Culinary/Pastry Arts and Consumer Services Department.
Upon retiring Judy enjoyed spending more time with family and friends doing things such as relaxing at her beach house in Galveston, shopping with her sisters in the Texas hill country, helping her daughters with home projects, tinkering in her backyard, or supporting her grandchildren at their dance or cheer competitions and ballgames.
She had a great sarcastic sense of humor, she was a talented seamstress and could craft just about anything with a drill, a hammer and a hot glue gun. She loved the music of Motown, Elvis, Whitney Houston, Alabama and Bruno Mars. She also enjoyed watching old movies, the Hallmark Channel, mystery and detective shows and British series like Downton Abbey. She always added a special touch to the holidays with her playful decorations, her annual cheese ball and breakfast rolls and her thoughtful handmade gifts for the grandkids.
Judy was fortunate to live a long healthy and active life before her breast cancer diagnosis in October 2022. She did her best to keep fighting but made the brave choice to discontinue treatment in March 2024 when the cancer continued to spread. A bright spot for her in these last couple of months was anticipating the arrival of 3 new great-grand babies that she was blessed to get the chance to see and hold in her arms. The evening before her passing Judy was surrounded in love by her sister, her children, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren and her beloved puppy Juju.
She is survived by her sisters Joy Lloyd and Jane Barden, her half-sister Nancy Flores, her daughters Jennifer Camp and Julie Simpson, her son-in-law Jake Simpson, 7 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Judy will be missed by many but has given us wonderful memories to carry in our hearts.
Following the graveside service please join us for a reception at the home of her sister Joy Lloyd at 12435 Rutgers Park Court, Houston, Texas 77058.
Please wear bright, tropical colors in honor of Judy.
