John Allen "Johnny" Whitney passed away February 10, 2011 in a Houston hospital. He was born August 31, 1943 in Pasadena, Texas to Fayette Earl Whitney and Ola Letha Oatman Whitney. During the Vietnam War he served in the Army. John was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Humble. Johnny was very dedicated to his family and work. He enjoyed building hot rods and racing cars. He enjoyed taking his family to the race tracks. In addition, he loved going fishing for the BIG fish! As a family John and Lucy took their family on many vacations, trips to the beach and many sight seeing outings. He was an avid reader of books and magazines. For work, John was able to oversee the construction of many great buildings such as the Texas Children's Hospital. He enjoyed interior designing.
John is survived by his loving wife of over 46 years, Lucy Jane Biscamp Whitney. They have two children; son, Michael Lee Whitney and his wife, Melody and daughter, Valerie Renee Whitney Nikirk. Six grandchildren, Kristin, Kaleigh, Valerie & Victoria Whitney and Juliana & RuXing Nikirk. John is also survived by two brothers, Donald Leroy & wife, Delores Whitney and Lloyd Alvin and wife, Deirdre Whitney; one sister, Joyce Marie and husband, Wesley Allen and several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends, who will all miss Johnny!
In addition to his parents, Fayette and Ola Whitney, John was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Earl and Harold Gene Whitney; a sister, Erletha McGuire and a granddaughter, Susanna Day Nikirk.
