John Edgar “Ed” Baker of Houston, Texas peacefully departed this earth and went to be with his Maker at 6:21pm on May 30, 2012. Ed was born in Ryderwood, Washington on December 10, 1924 to Robert William Baker and Violet Philpot Baker. He was their fifth and youngest child. Ed married Mary Barbara Gilbert on December 28, 1955 in Chestertown, New York, and has resided in Houston for the past 31 years. Ed is survived by Mary, his wife of 56 years, his children Mary Boutwell of Houston, TX, Cindy Meredith and husband, Mike of Grand Prairie, TX, Christine Duke and husband, Richard of Houston, TX, Michelle Baker of Houston, TX, Suzanne Wilkinson and husband, David of Arlington, TX, and Robert Baker and wife, Ann of Whiteman AFB, MO, eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and sister Helen Catton of Los Altos Hills, CA.
Ed worked in many facets of the aviation industry for over 50 years, retiring from Universal Weather and Aviation in 2006. Visitation and viewing will take place on Monday, June 4, 2012 from 6-8pm at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church located at 11011 Hall Road, Houston, TX 77089, with a Rosary at 7:00pm. A mass and services will take place Tuesday, June 5 at 11am at the church. Procession and burial will follow at Forest Park East located at 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, TX 77598.
