Mr. Silvey was born on June 8, 1936 in Southside, AL to Jesse and Hazel Silvey. He was raised and worked on the family farm in Alabama and upon graduation of high school proudly served in the U.S. Air Force at Biggs Army Airfield in El Paso, TX. Jerry married the love of his life, Cruz Jiner in 1957. Jerry and Cruz began their life together in El Paso, TX where he started his career at the Federal Reserve Bank. Jerry retired from the Federal Reserve Bank after 40 plus years and then worked for Bank of the West before moving to Santa Fe, TX in 2006.
Mr. Silvey was a loving husband and father and was a long-time member of The Gideons International distributing Bibles across the globe. Mr. Silvey previously attended Kemp Street Baptist and First Baptist Church in El Paso, TX. He was an avid reader and enjoyed solving crypto quotes until his illness.
Mr. Silvey is survived by his wife of 59 years, Cruz, his sons Charles and daughter-in-law Wendy of Winona, TX, daughter Jill and son-in-law Marshall Bartee of Santa Fe, TX and Scott and daughter-in-law Lisa Ramos of Kyle, TX. He is also survived by three brothers, Walter Hall, Bill Hall and Keith Hall and six grandchildren: Elise, Reagan, Holden and Bryton Silvey, Megan Bauer (her husband Enoch) and Jenna Bartee. He was preceded in death by his father and mother: Jesse Silvey and Hazel Hall and his daughter June Silvey.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 11:30 am on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, TX 77598. Family and friends are then welcome to join in a celebration of his life in the Forest Park East Funeral Home Chapel from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. A brief grave side service will then follow at Houston National Cemetery at 2:30 pm.
