Funeral Services for Mr. Phillips will be on Saturday, March 25th at 10:00 a.m. at the chapel of the Forest Park East Cemetery located at 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, TX. Burial services will immediately follow.
Mr. Phillips is preceded in death by parents, William Hershel Phillips and Lurley Johnston Phillips; two wives—India Nola Barnes Phillips and Angela Andreozzi Phillips; brother, Doyne Phillips: sister, Frances Phillips Adams; son, David Bryan Phillips; son-in-laws Greg Gann and Jim Gillispie; daughter-in law Nancy McCurtain Phillips.
He is survived by his children: Gary Phillips of Houma, LA; Steve Phillips and Ronnie Phillips of Crosby, TX; Linda Gann of Mexia, TX; Marolyn Douglas of Ada, OK; Deborah Belanger (Doyle) of Metarie, LA; Donnie Phillips of Sugarland, TX; step-daughter, Vasso Espinosa (Henry) of Crosby; 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Mr. Phillips was born in Willow, AR, on April 27, 1927, and spent much of his childhood on a cotton farm in Dyess, AR, a New Deal project for poor farmers. Has was a proud military veteran, serving in United States Navy in World War II and the Korean Conflict in Pacific Theater as an electrician’s mate on Navy vessels and shore facilities. He was a past member of the Frank Kubin VFW Post 9761 in Crosby, serving as its Chaplin.
He worked in the oil industry as an electrical engineer for Pan Geo Atlas, Dresser Atlas and Welex for over 30 years in the oil fields of Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.
Mr. Phillips was a devoted parishioner of the First Baptist Church of Crosby over 15 years and always looked forward to Sunday services, especially interacting with his fellow Sunday school class members.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff in the Intensive Care Unit of HCA for their compassionate care during his stay there.
A visitation for James will be held Saturday, March 25, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX 77598. A celebration of life will occur Saturday, March 25, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX 77598. A committal service will occur Saturday, March 25, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Forest Park East Cemetery, 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX 77598.
