Greg was born on December 6, 1952 and raised in Belvidere, IL. He was the oldest of 3 brothers. Growing up, he enjoyed camping with his family all over the mid-northern states. Greg was a proud veteran. He joined the Army in 1972 and served for 10 years before being honorably discharged. He obtained his GED after enlisting and received extensive training and degrees in electronics and large machine maintenance leading him down a career path where companies had to create special positions to utilize his unique skill set. Greg had an interest in magic. He enjoyed learning the tricks and how they worked. He would put on the occasional magic show for his wife’s eyes only.
Greg was a kind, caring and honest person. He held himself to a higher standard than he did everyone else. He was not judgmental and really took the time to get to know people’s hearts. He had strong morals and always stood up for what was right. Greg didn’t show a lot of emotion, but you knew he cared about you if he was taking the time to teach you something. Although he had no children of his own, he really tried to be a father-figure to his son-in-law, Carlos.
Greg really enjoyed working on things with his hands. If he couldn’t find a tool that he needed to fix something, he would make it himself. He liked cars and went to car shows with his son-in-law when possible. He loved fishing and even bought a small boat one time, much to his wife’s dismay. But most of all, Greg LOVED driving his Slingshot! He was always finding new parts and gadgets to make it perform better. He even found a group that would get together every so often and go riding for the day. It was truly his happy place.
He was preceded in death by his younger brother Brian.
He is survived by his wife, Anita, his father and mother, O. Eugene and Mary, his younger brother and his wife, David and Wendy, and their daughter, Stephanie, his stepdaughter and her husband, Christina and Carlos, and his beloved little brown dog, Coco.
Services for Greg will be held Sunday, October 8, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home, located at 21620 Gulf Freeway in Webster.
