GEORGE K. MCKAY, born November, 24, 1932 passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 with his family by his side. Born in Piraeus, Greece, George received his master’s degree in Nautical Science at the Military Academy University of Southampton, England.
A resident of Galveston for 50 years, he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting/fishing with his sons, grandson, and all of his close buddies. George was employed as a Captain with Lykes Lines Company for 35 years. He was a member of American Master Mariners and Masters, Mates and Pilots. He was a 32nd degree Master Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and a member of El Mina Shrine Temple in Galveston.
George is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Vera McKay; sons, Alexander K. McKay and Andrew K. McKay, M.D. and his wife Lauri; grandchildren, Hunter and Lauren McKay; and brother, Basil Karlow. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 21, 2010 at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas.
