Gail Delores Myers was born November 28, 1938 to John and Eleanor Vance in Houston, Texas. She was 84 years old when she passed peacefully on September 17, 2023 at Brighton Senior Living at Regency Village.
Gail loved people and everyone she met became a child, a grandchild or a best friend. She was a life long crafter, learning to sew, macrame, and crochet. She learned tole painting, cake decorating, arranging artificial flowers, and stained making many beautiful creations. She used these skills often for her church, First Baptist Church Friendswood, as she crafted prayer reminders for WMU or decorated for countless baby and wedding showers. She loved her church and spent many hours singing in the choir. She claimed she never wanted to miss a practice with choir directors Cody Voss then Jerry Duffer or they “would know who was off key”, always followed by laughter. Decorating the sanctuary for holidays was another service to the church she loved.
Gail was also a giver to her community. She served as the precinct chairman for over 20 years, was in the Ladies Auxiliary when Clear Lake Hospital opened its doors, was a student in Webster's first Police Citizens Academy, and served on Webster's Celebration Committee for many years, as well as other city committees. She served on these committees with dearly loved friends. Gail and her husband Floyd attended many city and state events while serving in elected roles. She was able to travel, make new friends and win people over. Gail had a quick wit and laughter followed her wherever she went making her loved by all.
The highlights of her year were the Sanderson Family Reunion in Groesbeck and the Bartee Christmas ornament exchange. She prepared all year for these events making hundreds of cookies and individual pies for all to enjoy. Each year she prepared handmade items for the auction. Gail loved her family and especially loved being with aunts, uncles and beloved cousins.
Gail was married to Floyd for 68 years and together they had 3 kids, 12 grandkids (lovingly called the dirty dozen) and 28 great grandkids. She was their Granny and loved them all passionately. Her door was always open and she was interested in every moment of their lives. There were many sleepovers, late night game playing and lots of movies.
Gail Myers was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd H. Myers, brother John (Butch) Vance, granddaughters Teagan, Brinlee, and Delaney. She is survived by daughter Renee (Tony) Human of Brenham, daughter Tammy (Richard) Rowlands of Friendswood, son David (Lillie) Myers of Alvin, sister in law Maryanna Vance of Pearland, uncle Preston Bartee of the Woodlands, 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
