Frank Herbert Rack, 82, of Dickinson, TX, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 17, 1932, he was an only child. He was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle and Friend. Frank graduated in 1950 from DeWitt Clinton High School in Bronx, New York. He attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York; graduating in 1954 with a degree in Marine Engineering, followed by two years of service in the U.S. Navy and continued service in the Navy Reserve. Frank worked for seventeen years in various positions with the Electric Boat and Quincy Shipbuilding Divisions of General Dynamics. He moved to Texas with his family in 1973 to work for Todd Shipyards Corporation and in 1975 he started his own consulting firm, Shipbuilding Consultants Inc. with his business partner and wife, Helen. He started another business in 1990 with his son Kevin, Managing Change Inc., until his retirement in 2003. Frank loved sports and played many in his youth. He liked a good game of chess and taught all his children and grandchildren to play so that he never lacked an opponent. Frank has had many health concerns but remained positive throughout, thanks in many ways to his fabulous Kings Point and DeWitt Clinton classmates. Frank served as class agent for the Kings Point class of 1954, writing for the KINGSPOINTER over many decades. He was also a member of Toastmasters and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers. His greatest accomplishment was his family of 6 children and 4 grandchildren with the love of his life, Helen. Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Francis Ernest Rack and Dorothea Sophia Ratjen Rack and his beloved wife of 54 years, Helen Geraldine McQuillan. Frank leaves behind his loving children Wm. Kevin Rack and wife Esther, Dr. Frank R. Rack and wife Line, Teri E. Rack, Karen L. Rack, Helen A. DeLosSantos and husband Rudy, and Elisabeth B. Rack; grandchildren Richard Adrian Beltran, Krystal Rack, Devan DeLosSantos and Colin DeLosSantos. Frank will be greatly missed by all. The Rack Family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care Frank received over the years, while struggling with lewy body dementia, from doctors at Baylor Neurology, as well as the wonderful nursing and therapy staff at Apostle Home Health and House Call Doctors. We would like to extend a special thanks to Beatrice for the wonderful care she showed with her calming, peaceful, and reassuring demeanor. Also to Lindsey, Frank’s speech therapist, for her support and patience in helping us to find ways to continue communicating and care for Dad until his passing. Frank will make his final voyage on Saturday, April 04, 2015 at Forest Park East Funeral Home and Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. followed by a Military Honor graveside service at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks with gratitude that remembrances be made in Frank Rack’s name to any of the following: His alma mater, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, the Lewy Body Dementia Association, Blind Veterans Associations, American Heart Association, or any charity of your choice.
