Donald Gene Davis, passed from this world to life eternal with Jesus Christ from cancer on October 27, 2014. Don was the oldest child of the family of Denver Bruce and Opal B. Davis, sisters Patsy Jo Siler (John), Starlet Jean Mullins (Ace A), brother Vernon Ray Davis (Lisa). Preceded in death Denver Bruce Davis, Opal B. Davis, sisters Mary Lou Cantrell (Bob), Vicky Kay Mullins, Doris Ann Davis and son Bruce Alan Davis.
Don leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Rhae Joan C., two sons Donald Ray (Barbara Ann), Michael Anthony (Sally), grandson Joshua James Davis (Janis), granddaughter Beverly Jene, great-grandchildren Grace, Gavin, Liam, step-grandson Travis Walking Stick (Laura) Kylee, Ryan, ten nieces and nephews, also three special in-law families.
Don served 24 years in the Air Force, with first assignment being MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida where he and Joan met and were married. Their three boys were born there before they started their travels with the Air Force. Another special assignment was Ramey Air Force Base in Puerto Rico where he accepted Jesus as his savior. He was a two time recipient of The Air Force Commendation Medal and The Meritorious Service Medal. He was also named Traffic Manager of the year for the Air Force. Don also served two terms as president of the Houston Chapter of the National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA) while working for the Department of Defense here at Ellington before retiring.
He was a member of University Baptist Church, Clear Lake. At different churches he taught Sunday School to sixth grade boys from a Boys Home which he always said was a challenge but very rewarding when he experienced the difference in their lives learning about Jesus. Don also served on church finance and budget committees at other places we lived.
Last but not least Don was an avid sports fan both on the side line and on the basketball court playing for his squadron and church leagues. He was a special husband, father, grandfather, papa, and papa #2 who was loved very much and will be missed greatly. We are very thankful and comforted knowing he is in the presence of Jesus Christ, son Bruce and other loved ones, where there is no more suffering and sickness now and forever.
