passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 3, 2013. He was born in
Lufkin, Texas on November 17, 1930 to Clarence & Virginia Weatherly. Jr. proudly
served his country during the Korean War as a Corporal in the U.S. Army. Upon
leaving the Army, he followed in the footsteps of his beloved father and began
his long time career of 45 years from which he retired as a Crew Caller for the
Port Terminal Railroad in 1995.
Jr. loved to fish and camp, bowl and travel the United States. He was a true
Houston sports fan closely following the Oilers/Texans, Astros and Rockets along
with his daughter, Charlotte and son, Ron. He enjoyed spending time with his
children; teaching them at a young age to water ski, fish, enjoy the outdoors,
play sports, the love of family, the value of hard work, an unconditional love
of animals, to always be respectful of others, pride for their country and to
always express appreciation to all veterans and active military. When his
children were young the whole family would load up the station wagon and travel
around the United States. Later in life he would travel the U.S. with his wife,
Darlene and his dogs.
Continuing the pride for his country, Jr. was a long time active member at the
American Legion, Post 490 in South Houston, AmVets, VFW and was a member of the
Moose Lodge.
Throughout his lifetime Jr. always had a dog by his side. While in the Army
stationed in Alaska, he found and adopted a cute black puppy he named Sarge.
Upon leaving Alaska he had to leave Sarge behind but insured that he would be
well cared for and loved by another fellow Soldier. Jr. was often seen selling
the Houston Press newspaper in downtown Houston riding his motor scooter with
his then canine friend, Buddy riding on the back.
Prince, one of his last faithful canine companions went everywhere with him.
Family, friends and acquaintances knew if Jr. was around, so was Prince. Also on
November 3rd Prince put on his angel wings and followed his best friend to
Heaven.
Jr. was predeceased by his parents Clarence & Virginia; his young 3 yr. old son,
Terry; and his wife, Darlene.
Sadly he left behind many heavy hearts, yet blessed with a lifetime of wonderful
memories…
Children: daughter, Charlotte Johnson; daughter, Sharon Ardelean residing in New
Jersey with her husband Paul Ardelean; son, Ron Weatherly; step-daughter, Karen
Carter and step-son, John Carter.
Grandchildren: Jason Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Misti McNulty, Nick Giambelluca
II, Jamie Ardelean, Cristin Ardelean, Mark Weatherly, Bobby Aufill and his wife
Veronica, Chris Aufill and Kenny Scheffer.
Great-Grandchildren: Mark Weatherly, Jr., Neila Weatherly, Kayli Alyssa McNulty,
Bobby McNulty, Grace Kapri Scheffer, Ayden Christopher Aufill and Mackynley Joi
Aufill.
He will also be dearly missed by his many friends.
Friends have described Jr. as always friendly, smiling, respectful,
compassionate, caring and a great man with wonderful insight.
Our Dad liked to make people laugh and did so until the very end. He always told
us children not to worry so much, leave behind mistakes yet learn from them,
enjoy the good and make the best of challenging times. Always reminded us how
proud he was of his kids and almost always ended a conversation or departure
with an “I love you”!
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 12:30pm at Forest Park East Funeral Home.
