Charles Allen Brown Jr.

Charles Allen Brown Jr. passed away on April 30, 2024 in Houston, Texas. He was born on January 12, 1953, in Fort Carson, Colorado, to Charles Allen Brown Sr. and Rhoda Dunlap Brown. Charlie attended primary school in Houston, Texas and Colorado Springs, Colorado. He graduated from Palmer High School in Colorado Springs, where he was an outstanding football player. Charlie then attended the University of Colorado in Boulder on a full athletic scholarship.

Upon completion of his undergraduate degree, he moved to Houston to be closer to his father’s family. Charlie then pursued a law degree at Texas Southern University, where he distinguished himself by receiving the American Jurisprudence Award in constitutional law.

After graduating from law school, he became a member of the Texas Bar on May 26, 1980. He and Sherra miller were sworn during the same ceremony, although they did not know one another at the time.

After a whirlwind courtship, he and Sherra decided that they wanted to share their lives together. They were married on April 7, 1989, by Judge Carl Walker at a “surprise” wedding orchestrated by Beverly Backers and company. It was magical.

Charlie loved his job as a criminal defense attorney. Sherra joined his practice, and they worked together every day for 35 years.

He is survived by his loving wife and partner, Sherra Miller, along with four sons: Christopher James Brown (Miesha), Matthew Llorens Brown, Darryl Blackburn Brown (DeShana) and Everett Blake brown.

Charlie is also survived by his sisters: Ester Morgan Holland and Beverly Brown Noland, brothers: Henry Morgan (Edith), Johnny Morgan (Mary) and James Price (JP) Morgan.

Charlie (Pawpaw) also leaves four grandchildren: Aiden Charles, Monroe Matisse, Cora Eiko and Lennox Autumn. Another granddaughter is expected in July.

He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews who will always love their Uncle Charlie beyond words.

Extended family members include: Aunt Loretta Wyndon, best friend Earl Ward (Stevie), DeAnzo Williams (Tamara), Deneen Williams, Wanda Moon and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Allen Brown, Sr. and Rhoda Brown Moon, his stepfather Minor Lee Moon (Daddy Moon), and his sister Vicky Brown Williams.

Charlie will be lovingly missed for his gorgeous eyes, beautiful soul, gentle spirit, brilliant mind and his love for family and friends. The legal community has lost one of its finest and he will be greatly missed by his courthouse family.

His legacy of love and dedication will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Serving as pallbearers will be Cornell Brown, Jordan Minter, Tyler Johnson, Chad Benton, Drayton Ratcliff, Austin Armstrong, Jeremy Ledet and Jarrett Benton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Christopher Brown, Blake Brown, Earl Ward, Henry Wyndon Jr., Matthew Brown, Darryl Blackburn Brown, Johnny Morgan and James Price (JP) Morgan.
