Catherine L. Benson

2025, at the age of 89.

Born on September 1, 1935, in Lawtell, Louisiana, Catherine was the daughter of Elgin

Charles Lastrape and Beatrice Kennerson Lastrape. She grew up surrounded by a large and

loving family that shaped her deep sense of connection and care for others. Throughout

her life, Catherine remained devoted to her roots and carried forward the traditions and

values instilled in her from an early age.

Catherine shared a long marriage with her late husband, Elvester Benson. Together they

built a life filled with family and enduring memories. Her legacy continues through her

daughter Christina Anderson and son-in-law George Anderson. She was a proud

grandmother to Antoinette Auzenne, Troy Jacob Anderson, Benjamin Joseph Anderson, and

Matthew George Anderson. Catherine also leaves behind her beloved sister Theresa Tory

and brother Elgin “T-Boy” Lastrape.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son Anthony Vincent Auzenne; sisters Virginia

Payne Jones and Mary Payne; and brothers Andrew Lastrape and Joseph Lastrape.

Catherine had a remarkable gift for making things beautiful—whether through styling hair

as a talented hairdresser or creating elegant garments as a skilled seamstress. Her flair for

decorating brought warmth to every space she touched. Perhaps most memorable were

her culinary talents; Catherine’s holiday meals were legendary among those fortunate

enough to gather around her table. She found joy in cooking for others and took pride in

preparing dishes that brought comfort and happiness to all who tasted them.

Her home was always open to family and friends alike—a place where laughter echoed

through the halls during holidays and special occasions. Catherine’s generosity extended

beyond her immediate family; she cherished time spent with a wide circle of loved ones

including sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles, and dear friends who

will miss her deeply.

Catherine’s life was one of creativity, devotion, and quiet strength. Her memory will live on

in the hearts of all who knew her.

A visitation for Catherine will be held Monday, April 21, 2025 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am with a funeral service to start at 10:00 am and a committal to follow. All services will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home & Cemetery, located at 21620 Gulf Freeway in Webster, Texas.
