Carol was the first-born child of Louis De Rose and Adelaide Butteri De Rose, and had a younger sister, Nancy Ann De Rose Gray.
She graduated from St. Andrews Catholic High School, Pasadena, CA, in 1962, and attended Pasadena Community College.
Carol met Ed at a mutual friend’s home (but unknown to each other), for Thanksgiving dinner in 1985. After dating for two years, Carol and Ed were married on January 31, 1987 at Lake Avenue Congregational Church in Pasadena, CA. A second (formal) wedding ceremony with family and friends was held on May 9, 1987 at The Chapel of Roses in Pasadena, CA. This date was significant to Carol and Ed as it was Mother’s Day and also Carol’s mother’s birthday.
A very gifted pianist, as was her father, Carol loved to entertain on her little spinet. She knew many songs by heart, and classical piano was her forte.
Carol loved her work as a receptionist and secretary in finance, banking, and real estate management, and those at her work loved her. Whether laboring for large corporations like Kidder Peabody and Security Pacific Bank in downtown Los Angeles, or a small company like RPI Services, Inc., in Arcadia, CA, Carol brought a bright, bubbly smile and excellent attitude to the workplace. She was loved while part of these organizations, and greatly missed upon her departure.
Carol also loved everything Disney: Disneyland, Disneyworld, Disney movies, Disney memorabilia, and Disney cruises. She visited each park many times and became like a little child herself, delighting to observe the joy on children’s faces as they enjoyed the color, pageantry, and celebration of life. Even when limited by a cane or bound by a wheelchair, she was set free and transformed by each trip.
Carol was a self-admitted extreme cat lover. She had many kitties in her life, her favorites being Siamese, Oriental Shorthair, and American Shorthair: Chester, Minnie, Jennie-fur, Ricky, Thai-grr, Chloe, and MANY others, she doted on and adored her special little friends.
Carol lived in some of the most beautiful, cosmopolitan cities in America: New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Houston. She was blessed to visit many places that others long to see: the pyramids of Giza, Stonehenge, the Blarney Stone, Rome, the Bahamas, Hawaii, San Diego, Charleston, and even Santa Barbara and Escondido. Travel was in her blood, and even in the face of her infirmities she longed and strived to sail, fly, and drive to the ends of the earth itself.
Carol is survived by her husband Ed Butler of Clear Lake City, TX, her sister Nancy and brother-in-law David of Westminster, CA, her niece Julie Jones of Playa Del Rey, CA, her nephew Danny Gray of San Luis Obispo, CA, and her kittie Chloe Butler of Clear Lake City, TX. She is also survived by Ed’s mother and father, Connie and Ed Butler Sr. of North Charleston, SC, and her brothers-in-law David Butler, Michael Butler, and Stephen Butler, also of North Charleston, SC. She is also loved, missed and survived by her precious friends: Marcie Reyna of Clear Lake City, TX, David and Tammy Newman of League City, TX, Yo and Sammy Wang of Clear Lake City, TX, John and Kelly Wullschleger of League City, TX, and Dedra Flynn of Seabrook, TX.

Pallbearers will be Carol’s husband Ed Butler, David Newman, Austin Newman, John Wullschleger, Brent Bautista, and Sal Bautista. Reception will be held at David and Tammy Newman’s home, 5727 Amberwood Drive, League City, TX, at 2:00pm.
Carol will be interred at Forest Park East Cemetery.
Donations to the American Diabetes Association of Houston are requested. Diabetes is an American plague that contributed greatly to Carol’s passing, and we need to work together to defeat this horribly debilitating disease.
Ed wishes to thank Marcie Reyna, Tammy Newman, and Sammy Wang for their tireless efforts to comfort, protect, and care for Carol with the love of God in practical, real, and indispensable ways. They lived out the command to ‘do unto others as we would have them do unto us’. They are the blessings of his life, and will never forget their works of compassion.
Arrangements under the direction of Forest Park East Funeral Home and Cemetery, Webster, TX.
