Bonnie Lee Bond Powell (81), born November 14, 1929 and went to be with our Lord on Thursday, June 16, 2011. She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Boyd and Pauline Wassom Bond and graduated from Central High School in Tulsa Oklahoma. She also attended Oklahoma A & M College in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She was a long time resident of Pasadena, TX and enjoyed living her last three years at the Waterford in Deer Park. She was married to Bobby Frank Powell and together they had three sons. She was a loving and dedicated daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family was the love of her life, but she also worked at J.C. Penney’s and retired after 25 years only to start volunteering at Bayshore Medical center. She dedicated herself to that for 14 years and worked over 8,000 hours there. She finally retired from there the year she turned 80.
Bonnie’s faith was very important to her and she became a Christian in high school. Locally, she was a longtime member first of Faith Presbyterian Church and then First Baptist Church both of Pasadena.
It wasn’t until later on in life that Bonnie took the time to discover that she was competitive and loved playing games with her friends. She also developed a passion for gardening and took great delight in transforming a weedy corner of the yard at the Waterford into a beautiful, peaceful and prolific flower and vegetable garden for all to enjoy.
Bonnie is survived by her brother Bill Bond, sister Laura Turney, sons Hoagy (Cathy), John (Marty) and Robbie (Linda) as well as grandchildren Chuck (Shannon) Williams, Lindsey (Erik) Kattner, Courtney Powell, Bobby (Brittany) Powell, Dani (Shaun) Archer , Brittany Powell, and Matt Powell and great grandchildren Maddie Williams, Mariah and Lianna Archer, Brenson Powell, Reese Kattner, Bracen Powell and two more buns in the oven.
Visitation will be held at Forest Park East on Sunday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. with another visitation Monday morning at 9 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Pasadena with the services following at 10 a.m.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Quraishi and his staff for their devoted and tender care and to the staff and residents of the Waterford for their loving friendship and support. Her years at the Waterford were some of the happiest of her life.
