She received security clearance to enter NASA during the time of Apollo 11 in 1969. On July 21, the Command Module landed on the moon, and she was there to witness it right where mission control was.
Alpha was very involved in ministry most of her life. She served as a Stephen Minister, served on Walk to Emmaus weekends and her special blessing was serving with Kairos Prison Ministry for over 15 years. Up to her last days she served as part of the Evangelism team at Paul Horton Methodist Church.
Her parents Kate and Walter Coffman, brother Joel Coffman, and sister Mary Kathryn Bingham, all predeceased her in death.
She is survived by her children, Jerry Atkinson and his wife Vanessa, of Coldspring, Texas; Mariann Rayne and her husband Mike of Coldspring, Texas; Scott Atkinson and his wife Debbie of Fort Worth, Texas; and Mark Echols and his wife Denise of Angleton, Texas.
