Alice was born on May 6, 1955 in Pasadena, CA to John and Betty Speer. Until her junior year of high school, Alice and her family lived in many different places around the world as her father was transferred frequently with Shell Oil. The family eventually ended up in Houston, TX. Alice graduated from Baylor University in 1977 and from the Baylor College of Medicine in 1981 with her Doctor of Medicine.
Alice was a kind and caring wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, doctor, and mentor. In her spare time, Alice loved books and reading. As a child she would save her allowance to buy books. As an adult, she accumulated a large library of books covering a diverse range of topics. Alice also enjoyed spending time with family, skiing, scuba diving, telling off color jokes, and traveling.
In her professional life, Alice was a recognized physician and medical educator. In the two decades she worked at UTMB, Alice displayed a passion for her patients and educating future doctors. Alice held various roles while at UTMB including Director of the Division of General Internal Medicine, Vice Chair for Undergraduate Education and Director of the Internal Medicine Clerkship.
Alice earned her recognition by inclusion on the Best Doctors in America® List, Who’s Who in Medical Sciences Education, Who’s Who of American Women and Who’s Who of Women in Education. She served as President of the Society for Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine.
Alice is survived by her husband Michael Boscon, her mother Betty, her sisters Diane and Susan, her brother Michael, and her numerous nieces and nephews . She is preceded in death by her father, John.
