“My Daddy” Balsam-Winston Burlon Shuler, age 75, died on January 15, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Winston was born in Jackson County on July 8, 1939, to the late Lewis and Elsie Conner Shuler. Winston enjoyed his life with his wife Carolyn Shuler of 53 years in which he has now been joyfully reunited. He worked at Hennessee Sawmill and was remarkable with rock masonry. Winston has left many beautiful pieces of work in and around the Balsam Community and surrounding areas. He enjoyed watching Westerns and working outdoors. He liked telling stories about his life and making people laugh. Winston will be missed immeasurably. In addition to his parents, Winston was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Maynor and Frankie Shuler and two brothers, Roger and Enloe Shuler. Winston is survived by two sons Steve and Mike Shuler; two daughters, Debbie Greenarch and Shirlene Erwin; four brothers, one sister, two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 18, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Gary Putnam and Reverend Jerry Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
