Richard Clayton Garland

Waynesville-Richard Clayton Garland "Shorty", 60, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018. Rick was born in Baltimore, MD on March 6, 1958, to the late Harold and Joan McCracken Garland. Rick enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling. He and Debbie never visited the same place twice. Rick was a talented musician who never took a lesson. He retired from the Haywood County School System with 31 years of faithful service. Rick always said he loved working for the "kids". Life was always an adventure with Rick.

In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by a sister, Joni Elaine Garland; and a brother, Phillip Harold Garland.

Rick is survived by his wife of 18 years, Debbie Garland; a daughter, Wendy Rogers (Jeremy); a brother, Jack Garland (Andrea); grandchildren, Paige Rogers, Aidan Rogers, and Ian Rogers; and great-grandchildren, Creed Rogers and Cohen Rogers.

A memorial service celebrating Rick's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 14, at Well's Event Center in Waynesville.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church General Fund at 99 Academy St, Canton, NC 28716.
