Lois Jean Buckner Carden

Mrs. Lois Jean Buckner Carden age 83 of Waynesville, passed away on June 8, 2014 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. She was born in Buncombe County to the late William Robert and Atlas Brigman Buckner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bruce D. Carden; brothers Stanley and Burnis Buckner; and sisters Alma Sexton and Lucille Keys. Mrs. Carden graduated from Berea College and retired from Haywood County Schools as a teacher and librarian. She was a lifelong learner and educator and enjoyed reading in addition to spending time with her family. Survivors include her son Mark Carden (Nancy) of Waynesville; daughter Renee Jones (Paul) of Louisville KY; granddaughters Jennifer Basinger and Stephanie Patterson; great-granddaughters Jane-Claire and Emma Basinger. Funeral Services will be at 2PM Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the First Baptist Waynesville where she was a member. Rev. Dr. Robert Prince will officiate and interment will follow at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 12PM until 2PM.
