John Howard Jones Jr.

John H. Jones Jr., age 85, of Waynesville, NC joined his beloved wife, Peggy Sutton Jones on Saturday, August 27, 2022. John was born November 28, 1936 in Waynesville, NC to the late John H. Jones, Sr. and Thelma Fowler Jones.

John was known by many names, Sonny to family, uncle John to coworkers, coach John to the many Haywood County youth he coached over the years, farmer John to those who passed by his garden on Boyd Avenue and daddy and grandpa to those who are left to cherish his memory.

John will be remembered by many for the full life he lead. He was a US Army Veteran, retired Waynesville volunteer fireman, coach of Mountaineer Little League Baseball, Waynesville Recreation Youth Basketball, and Lake Junaluska Football. He retired from Champion Paper mill in 2000 and worked as a plumber for Caldwell Plumbing.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by, sisters, Nettieleigh Bolden, Dorothy Cable, Nancy Annarude, and Frances Russell; and brother, Richard Jones.

Survivors include daughters, Debbie Medford, and Amber Capps (Michael); sons, Otis Jones, Henry Jones (Dianne), Charles Jones (Angie), and Rodney Jones; siblings, David (Celia) Jones, Harvey Jones, Ruth Roach, Brenda Robinson; ten grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; special friend, Amanda Smith and beloved dogs.

Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, September 9, 2022 at Garrett Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Nelson. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to local youth sports organizations in John's name.
