John Morgan Davis

Morgan Davis, age 89 of Canton, peacefully entered his heavenly home on Thursday, February 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Vance and Malinee Davis. He was also predeceased by his son, Charles Davis.

Morgan proudly served his country in the United States Army. He later retired from Champion Papers as a supervisor on number 11 and 12 machines with 35 years of loyal and dedicated service. After retiring, he worked part-time with Garrett Funeral Home where his kindness and compassion brought comfort to many. He was a member of Canton Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and in many other capacities. Jesus Christ was his Lord and Savior, and he shared his faith through his daily walk.

Morgan was a quiet and humble man who enjoyed nothing more than being at home, mowing his lawn, and spending time with his family. His greatest role in life was as a husband, Daddy and Papaw, always making sure his family came first. His life was a true blessing to anyone fortunate enough to know him. He was a true inspiration for each of us to follow – a good and kind man whose legacy will continue to guide us each and every day.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 70 years, Emmaline Burnette Davis. They shared a lifetime of love, dedication and happiness while raising four children, Debbie Nix (Tom), Sue Sorrells (Doug), Sheila Jones (Danny) and Charles, who passed away in 2013, nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren, who often called him their hero. Morgan is also survived by two sisters, Bernice Haynes of Clyde and Daffine Hill of Canton.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 23, at High Street Baptist Church in Canton. Reverend Larry Collins, Reverend Chris Willett and Jeremy Cagle will officiate. Memorials may be made to The Gideons at Haywood East Gideons, P.O. Box 1204, Canton, NC 28716.
