Waynesville-Joe Jack Messer, 86 went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 8, 2023. Joe was born in Haywood County on September 19, 1936, to the late Robert Davis Messer, Sr. and Mattie McDaniel Messer. Joe was a member of Cove Creek Baptist Church and a faithful Christian. He enjoyed fishing, camping, going to car shows and having yard sales. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Davis “RD” Messer, Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Keith Gibson.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, ParaLee Evans Messer; daughter, Donna Messer Hunter (David); son, Anthony Messer (Wendy); grandchildren, Alisha Hunter Hickman (Jeremy), Stephanie Hunter, Emily Messer and Ethan Messer; and great-granddaughter, Hannelore Hickman.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 12, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with Reverend John Swanger III, Reverend Doctor Mark Golden and Reverend Doctor Nick Smith officiating. Private burial will follow at Davis Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
Due to health concerns, the family respectfully asks for no visitors or food to the home.
The family would like Joe to be remembered for his concern about how you are going to spend eternity. He never shied away from witnessing to others about Jesus Christ.
