Hazel Jeanette Phillips, 93, of Waynesville, returned to the Lord on December 17, 2016. Born in Swain County in 1923, she moved to Hazelwood as a young girl and graduated from Waynesville High School. She worked at Dayco Southern Corporation and married James Paul Phillips before becoming a homemaker. She was an avid reader and gardener and was one of the oldest members of the Hazelwood Baptist Church that was formally pastored by both her father and uncle. She is survived by her son Keith Phillips of Leesburg Virginia, his wife Leslie, and their two sons, Matthew and Samuel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 21, at Hazelwood Baptist Church with the Reverend Tim Lolley officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park.
