“Bud”
03/17/1941 – 03/12/2016
George Thomas Cogdill, known to many as, “Bud Cogdill”, 74, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 12th, 2016, at The Homestead at Haywood Regional in Clyde, North Carolina, after a short bout with cancer. He was a loving Father, Grandfather and friend.
A native of Jackson County, Bud was a long time resident of Haywood County, many around Western North Carolina knew him. Those that knew him would be quick to tell you that he was a humble, selfless, giving, hard working, God-fearing man. The Bible speaks of loving your neighbor, and few did it better than Bud. His heart was to help others and he asked for little or nothing in return. He truly was one of a kind and will deeply missed by all.
A Veteran of the U.S Army, Bud worked at Paxar for 30 years, and was also employed at Carolina Fire Protection for 10 years. When he wasn’t working or helping somebody, you could probably find him mowing.
Bud was preceded in death by his Father, Samuel Cogdill, Mother, Nettie Mathis Cogdill, four Sisters, Edith Hasket (Lyman), Jean Cogdill, Barbara Owens, Mattie Love Coggins (Daniel), and one Brother, Vernon Cogdill.
Left to cherish his memory, he leaves behind, one Daughter, Kimberly Cogdill Loy (Bryan) of Franklin, NC, two Grandson’s, Dustin Mick Dills of Gainesville, GA, and Shawn Michael Cruse of Franklin, NC, and one Step-Granddaughter, Jessica Loy (Blake) of Clinton, TN. Bud also has an older Sister, Betty Sue Brown (AJ) of Waynesville, NC, and numerous Nieces and Nephews.
Services will be held at Garrett’s Funeral Home in Waynesville, NC, on Thursday, March 17th, 2016 (what would have been Bud’s 75th birthday). The family will receive friends from 5pm-7pm, and immediately following, there will be a memorial service in the chapel. Please join us for a celebration of his life. Due to Bud being cremated, a burial gathering will be scheduled at a later date and time.
Bud was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church and attended Ridgeland Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and spent a lot of his time at home reading scripture.
For those desiring to give a donation in his memory, memorial contributions may be made to The Homestead at Haywood Regional, 127 Sunset Ridge Road, Clyde, NC, 28721.
