Elmer Charles "Butch" Stamm III, age 77, of Maggie Valley, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022. Elmer was born December 11, 1944 in Columbus, OH to the late Elmer C. Stamm, Jr and Margaret R. Bass Stamm.
Butch served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force. After leaving the Air Force, Butch married his childhood friend, Sandy who was a registered nurse. They have been married for 52 1/2 years. He was retired from the Orlando Utilities Commission in Orlando, FL following 26 1/2 years of service. Butch and Sandy then fulfilled their dream of living in the mountains of North Carolina. He worked at Springdale Golf Course for several years. Over the years Butch, always followed NASCAR, classic cars and golf. He also enjoyed music and dancing. His smile would light up any room, always loving and grateful. Butch was a member of Longs Chapel United Methodist Church.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Sandra Mesimer Stamm; brother, Robert Michael "Mike" Stamm (Jo Ann) of The Villages, FL; nephews, Johnathan Charles "Chuck" Stamm (Tonya) of Okeechobee, FL and David Grady Mesimer (Kyndra) of Canton, NC; nieces, Jennifer Alder of Ocala, FL and Karen Mesimer of Asheville, NC; very special "Great Niece and Nephew", Kylee and Brycen.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, August 19, 2022 in the chapel of Garrett Funeral Home with the Reverend Betsy Caudill officiating. Private inurnment will be at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family would like to offer a special word of thanks to the staff at Haywood Lodge and Retirement Center this past year for providing heartfelt loving care and support to Butch and Sandy.
