Elizabeth Lorene Messer Smith

Elizabeth Lorene Messer Smith, age 97, of Waynesville, NC passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Skyland Care Center. She was the daughter of the late Theodore and Sally King Messer. Elizabeth was born on July 6, 1926, in Crabtree, Haywood County.

Elizabeth is preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Smith; two daughters, Carolyn Scruggs and Brenda Owens; two granddaughters, Michelle Fulbright Surrett and Amy Wyatt; three sisters, Eva, Dorothy and Geneva; and two brothers, Earl and Orville Messer.

Elizabeth is survived by her son, Gary D. Smith (Mary); daughter, Beverly Smith Wyatt; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 21, at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Reverend Joey Webb, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm on Tuesday, May 21, at Garrett Funerals and Cremations.
