

Bill David Noland, Sr. age 89, of Waynesville, NC passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Smoky Mountain Health and Rehabilitation. He was the son of the late John Cordell Noland and Leora Mae Downs Noland. Also preceded him in death is Eula Jo Stamey Noland (mother of his children), brother J.C. Noland, sisters, Wilma Overstreet, Anna Lee Overstreet, Juanita Coldiron, Mable Manus and Phyllis Damour.
Bill is survived by his wife of 37 years, Ruth Helen Boone Noland, daughter, Deborah Jo Reed (Dennis) of Canton, NC, sons, Bill David Noland, Jr. (Sharon) of Swannanoa, NC and Dean Allen Noland (Kanchana) Apollo Beach, FL, and daughter, June Ann Noland of Raleigh, NC, one brother, Mack W. Noland (Myrtle), one sister, JoAnn Noland of Waynesville, stepsons, Bradford Lee Hazzard of Tucson, AZ, and Franklin Devon Hazzard, Jr. of Springfield, GA. Also there are five grandchildren and many beloved step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, and extended family and friends.
Bill was a 1953 graduate of Waynesville Township High School, He served his country in the US Army for two years, then graduated from Western Carolina Univ. and UNC Chapel Hill School of Social Work, certified in Group Child Care Administration. He served 39 years in North Carolina State Gov in Raleigh., then became a supervisor in The Guardian Ad Litem Program/Admin. Office of the Courts in Waynesville until retiring in 2000. Governor James B Hunt presented him with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in 1992.
After retirement he was elected Haywood County Commissioner for four years. Bill was an avid Tarheel fan and enjoyed Atlanta Braves baseball. He was a devoted member of Maple Grove United Methodist Church where he served as Past Chairman of the Administrative Board, Sunday School Teacher and Usher.
Services will be held at Maple Grove United Methodist Church at 11:00 am on Monday, July 31, 2023 with the Reverend Ron Hartman and Reverend Tom Hunter officiating. Family will receive friends from 9:30 am to 11:00 am Monday prior to the service in the sanctuary of Maple Grove UMC. Burial will follow the service at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park.
