He was born April 12, 1946 in Morgantown, West Virginia, a son of the late Robert H. and Marion Keller Bennett.
He was a graduate of Waynesburg High School.
Mr. Bennett was a carpenter and farmer.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the 9th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army.
On July 29, 1978 he married Patricia Morris Bennett, who survives.
He was affiliated with the Mt. Morris Gospel Tabernacle. Mr. Bennett was a well-known pitcher for the Dunkard Beach fast-pitch softball team. He later pitched for the First National Bank of Grafton.
He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed farming and gardening. He also enjoyed salt water fishing in Florida.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Brett W. Bennett (Patty) of Waynesburg; 4 grandchildren, Briana Bennett, Bayley Bennett, Jonathan Medlen, and Zachary Ziegler; 3 brothers, Tom (Judy) Bennett of Spotsylvania, VA, Bob (Brenda) Bennett of Morgantown, WV, and Dennis Bennett of Dilliner; 2 sisters, Dianna (Richard) Forquer of Core, WV, and Barb Bennett (Don Snyder) of Morgantown, WV; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a sister, Judy Ann Bennett.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 182 West High St., Waynesburg, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2014 with Pastor Fred Tomlinson and Pastor Edward Woods officiating followed by interment in Phillips Cemetery in Spraggs.
