He was born in Pine Bank, Greene County, Pennsylvania on May 29, 1939, to and John C. and Gladys V. Ealy Mankey.
He graduated from West Greene High School, Waynesburg College (University) and University of Pittsburgh and was a Professional Engineer and Registered Surveyor. He worked for Michael Baker Engineers of Harrisburg, PA and DMK Engineers of Englewood, FL. He also taught at the Greene County Vo-Tech for five years while establishing his own business, T. J. Mankey Engineering and Surveying, which served Greene County for 40 years. During that time, he was also the co-owner and manager of Arbor Terrace Center (bowling lanes) for 20 years.
Jake was a U. S. Air Force Veteran for four years and met his wife, Carol, at a church in Bangkok, Thailand. They were married on December 22, 1963, and enjoyed a Christ-centered marriage for 61 years and were proud parents to Kimberly Ann Mankey and Timothy J. Mankey.
He was a man of faith and a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Waynesburg, PA where he served as usher and on various boards. He was also an active member of Englewood United Church of Englewood, FL while living in Florida in retirement. He will always be remembered by the way he lived as hard working, honest and a generous man who helped many people along the way with a cheerful heart.
For many of the young men who worked for him, he was a mentor and role model.
He enjoyed life to the fullest. Always the competitor, he enjoyed participating in bowling leagues, golf leagues, and playing cards on Saturday nights and fishing with his buddies in Canada.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, daughter, Kimberly Ann Mankey, son, Timothy Jay Mankey (Dawn), a granddaughter, Gina Mankey; three step-grandchildren, Cody Rush, David Rush and Mason Rush; a nephew, A. Leland Mankey; and two nieces, Verona Allman, and Tina Watson.
Deceased are his parents, Gladys and John Mankey, brothers, Wilbert J. Mankey and Arthur Eugene Mankey and a niece Erma Conner.
There will be a Celebration of Life at First Baptist Church, 303 W. High Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370, on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 11:00 am, with the Rev. Dr. David Bess officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial tributes be made in his name to The Way Community Center of Greene County, PO Box 914, Waynesburg, Pennsylvania 15370.
