He was born July 30, 1935 in Waynesburg, the youngest son of the late Alta May (Cole) Henderson and J Wesley Henderson. On August 10, 1957, he married Edna Ruth (Moore) Henderson, who died November 7, 2016. After a brief residence in Waynesburg Borough after his marriage, he resided the remainder of his life at the family farm at Shadyside in Franklin Township.
Mr. Henderson was a graduate of the Class of 1953 at Waynesburg High School and briefly attended Waynesburg College (now University). His career was spent in the automotive service industry, retiring in 1997 as Service Manager at Fox Ford, Inc in Waynesburg after thirty-seven years of service. He also served in the United States Air Force and Pennsylvania Air National Guard from 1952 to 1991, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant. In addition, Mr. Henderson was an active member of numerous fraternal and service organizations including the Waynesburg Lions Club, the American Legion, Waynesburg Lodge 153, Free and Accepted Masons and the Sons of the American Revolution. Mr. Henderson enjoyed working on his farm and daily morning coffees with friends. He was an avid fan of both the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Survivors include his son, Adam Robert Henderson and husband Bruce Cameron Marshall of Arlington, Virginia; a son in-all-but-name, Kevin Lee Stewart and wife Tammy Lee (Foster) Stewart of Waynesburg and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends. He was the last of his immediate family.
A memorial and celebration of Mr. Henderson’s life will be held Saturday, April 29th at 11:30 am at the family farm at Shadyside in Franklin Township. As parking is extremely limited, friends are asked to gather at the car park at Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home, 197 North Maiden St, Waynesburg, at 10:30 am that morning, where a shuttle service will be provided. Interment will be private.
Taking part in the services will be the Waynesburg Masonic Lodge #153 F & AM and the James Farrell American Legion Post #330 and representatives of the United States Airforce.
