John F Thompson, 81, a lifelong resident of Sycamore entered the gates of heaven on February 29, 2024 and is happily rejoicing with his parents James Leslie and Virginia Lee (Toland) Thompson and loved ones.
He was a member of the Landmark Baptist Church of Waynesburg. He was a friend to everyone he met and worked at a variety of job in his lifetime including security guard, school bus driver, landscaper, well tender, among others.
John enjoyed hunting and fishing but his favorite pastime came from watching his “adopted” family grow and being able to spend quality time with them.
They are descendants of his wonderful life-long friend and care giver, Patty McClellan. His children include Margie McHugh, Jacqueline McClellan, Carolyn (Chris) Seid, Marilyn McClellan, Cindy Goodwin and Dusty (Karrie) McClellan. Grandchildren include Anna (Mark) Culley, Ashly Rice, Christopher Rice, John (Amanda) Ringer, Kurtis Ringer, Georgette Goodwin, Edward Goodwin III, James (Nicky) Armstead, Sarah Kennedy and Elijah Brown. His great-grandchildren include: Stormie Richter; Jonathon Culley; Tucker, Sadie, and Evelyn Ringer; Elizabeth, Juniper, Oliver, and Malcom Armstead; and Elaina and Elsie Kennedy.
Also surviving are two sisters (Bertha and Sarah) and a brother (James) and their spouses. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death were his parents; Lavanne McConnell (special friend), Woodrow (an infant brother), Samuel (Mary) (brother & sister-in-law), Ralph (Donna)(brother & sister-in-law), Robert (brother), Irma (Barry) Henry (sister & brother-in-law) and Thomas (brother) and Dena (sister-in law).
Friends will be received on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 from 6 to 8 pm in the Behm Funeral Home, 182 W. High St., Waynesburg, PA 15370, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 11:00 am, with Pastor Arnold Watts officiating.
