She was born April 8, 1925 at the family home in Castile, a daughter of the late Harlan K. and Ruth Rasel Watson.
She was a graduate of Jefferson High School.
On October 14, 1944 she married Robert Henry Filer, originally of Mather, who died December 21, 1997.
Mrs. Filer was a retired liability claims adjuster for the Kemper Insurance Company in Pittsburgh where she was known for her dedication and work ethic.
She had resided at Bethel Park for many years before returning to Waynesburg.
She was a Christian woman who was a very involved member of the Peters Creek Baptist Church at Library, PA.
Mrs. Filer loved to travel. She had toured much of the United States, Germany, France and Austria. She had also traveled to Okinawa, Hong Kong and mainland China.
She loved to bowl and was renowned for her chocolate chip cookies and graham cracker cream pies. She was known for her sense of style and the deep love she had for family.
Surviving are a daughter, Beverly Filer of Calbash, NC; a son, Brett Robert Filer of Uniontown; daughter-in-law, Betty Filer of Uniontown; three grandchildren, Jason Bart, Brian Robert, and Laura Ashley Filer. Aunt Ruth is also survived by a loving extended family including sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, Harlan "Bud" Watson and Hiram "Hank" Watson; and a sister, Sarah "Libby" Orndoff.
Friends will be received 2 to 4p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 182 West High St., Waynesburg where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2013 with Rev. Greg Adkins and Rev. Keith Emmerling of Peters Creek Baptist Church officiating followed by in interment at Greene County Memorial Park in Morgan Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
