Clara "Chera" Corrine (Marshall) Baird

She was the second youngest of eleven children. She graduated with honors from Wilkinsburg High School in 1941.

Clara married Dr. William Free Baird Sr. on July 4, 1943, and shared 62 years of loving marriage until his death in 2006. They moved to Waynesburg in 1957, where William was employed as a pathologist at Greene County Memorial Hospital for many years.

Clara was active in many clubs and volunteer organizations including the Twentieth Century Club, Greene County Medical Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Waynesburg Women’s Club, Children’s Literary Guild, Social Service League, Waynesburg High School Band Parents, and the Cherry Door. Also she served as a patient support volunteer for the Sjogren’s Syndrome Foundation.

She enjoyed her family foremost, entertaining friends, hosting holiday picnics, gardening, traveling, reading, baking, and playing gin rummy, pinochle, bridge, and table games. She loved to dance.

In addition to her parents, deceased is one son, Robert Eric, who died in infancy, and nine siblings, Fred Marshall, Lillian Gries, Elmira Hopf, Samuel Marshall, Betty Carter, Minerva Marshall, Pauline Marshall, Lulu Keller, and Margaret McFeaters.

Leaving behind to miss her dearly are her children, William Free Baird Jr. (Sally), Richard Keith Baird, and Chera Lynn Doty (Robert); six grandchildren, Jeffrey Baird (Leigh), Jonathan Baird (Laura Neil), Corrine (Corri) Baird-Jones, Scott Doty (Jessie), Justin Baird (Missy) and Eric Doty (Katie); one sister, Pearl Adele (P.A.) Frazier; also 8 great-grandchildren, Jennifer Baird, Emma Jones, Bisou and Holden Baird, Keira and Jayden Baird, Benjamin and Lucas Doty; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will always remember her kind, gentle and loving spirit, her generosity, as well as her great sense of humor.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday June 2, 2018 in the First Presbyterian Church of Waynesburg, 169 West College Street, Waynesburg with Rev. William Sukolsky officiating.
