IN THE CARE OF
Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes & Crematory
Sarah J. “Dookie” Painter 91, of Fishersville entered into eternal rest on January 24, 2018 at Waynesboro Manor Assisted Living. Sarah, most lovingly known as Dookie, was born in Massies Mill in Nelson County on December 13, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Blanche Johnson. She was married to Edward V. “Dick” Painter who predeceased her in 1968; along with her nine siblings.
Sarah was blessed to have four loving daughters, Leona “Tassie” Wade and husband, Donnie, Margie Booth and husband, Charlie, Becky Farris and husband, James, Lisa Morris and husband, Joe, all surviving. She is also survived by two sisters, Laura “Mini” Wilson of Tennessee and Frances Holdren of Lynchburg. She also leaves behind five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Sarah worked at General Electric in Waynesboro for many years and then as a homemaker. She was a member of Bethel Tabernacle Church in Fishersville. She had several beloved pets, Alice, Penny and Lucky. Dookie enjoyed cooking, crafting, making silk flower arrangements, quilting and most of all greeting the new residents at Waynesboro Manor with a flower arrangement and introducing herself. She was well known and especially proud of making beautiful wreaths and flower arrangements which she would sell at craft shows in past years.
Dookie always looked at life with the “glass is always half-full”. She always found the good in everything, no matter the situation. Sarah was so easy to please and optimistic with every challenge in life. She was a strong and independent woman, always putting God and her family first. She worked very hard all of her life as a wife, mother, homemaker and provider to her family, all with loving patience. Dookie always had such a giving heart and would help you anyway she could, expecting nothing in return.
Her constant loving and faithful spirit was with her to the end as she entered the gates of Heaven and into God’s loving embrace. Sarah exemplified the true meaning of a Christian and to leave that kind of legacy is the greatest gift that she could leave for her children. Love each other with a good heart and cherish the simple things in life!
The family is extremely grateful and thankful for the wonderful staff at Waynesboro Manor, who loved and cared for our mother and made it truly her home. The family also would like to especially thank Dr. Tushar Chopra and the many physicians and staff at Augusta Health.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 29, 2018 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastors John Muncy and Chris Pulice officiating. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to any local animal shelter of your choice.
